See, Think, Wonder

Choose a card (or cards) relevant to the topic of your lesson. Ask three questions:

  1. What do you See?
  2. What do you Think?
  3. What do you Wonder?

The first question provokes students to make observations (I see a group of people at a bus stop).

The second one makes them look a little deeper at what they noticed (I think they are waiting for a bus or hiding from the rain).

The third question ignites their imagination (I wonder why the man is smiling).

There are multiple possibilities to use this routine in class. Students can work individually, in pairs, or in groups. They can write down their ideas or simply discuss them.

Hint: Keep record of your students observations, interpretations and wonderings by making them use post-it notes, slips of paper, pieces of paper stuck to the walls.
